Two Hundred at Nowra's Lunch Time Rally

In Nowra, a lunch time rally of 200 union and community members held their ‘National Day of Protest’ against the Federal Governments new IR laws outside the office of the Liberal Member for Gilmore.
The rally was addressed by Unions Shoalhaven chairman Tim Montgomery who outlined the concerns regarding the IR legislation and the effects that are now becoming evident.
Unions Shoalhaven member Keith Bourke discussed the AWA that had been prepared for presentation to the Member for Gilmore. This AWA provided for a modest hourly rate, but removes parliamentary allowances, super etc. and was greeted with great approval by those present.
Hans Post, who grew up in Nazi Germany addressed the crowd, outlining how one of the first acts of the Nazis was to eliminate Trade Unions and put Union leaders into detention camps. He emphasised that a free and active union movement is vital for a free, democratic society.
Indeed a very successful day, and enjoyed by all present.
