That this public meeting of Wollongong citizens, representative
of neighbourhood committees, resident groups, South Coast unions
and community stakeholders endorses a major community campaign to
“Reclaim our City”.
This campaign will be guided by the following general principles
and organizational approach:
1. Principles
a) Democracy now – Return to elected local government with
effective anti– corruption processes in place, and an electoral
system which properly reflects the wishes of the voters .
b) Voices for our Community – Neighbourhood Committees and
Consultative Committees to be reinstated, resourced and recognized
by the Council as representative bodies.
c) Community Vision for the City – Appropriate development
for the people, including public infrastructure, while protecting
our natural and cultural heritage and our public land and resources
from any further sell off or alienation from the community.
2. Organization
The Reclaim Our City Campaign Committee consisting of representatives
from Neighbourhood/LAM Committees, resident groups, South Coast
unions, indigenous community representatives and other community
stakeholders will continue to meet and plan a program of activities
to promote the stated objectives. The Committee encourages citizens
who support this campaign to participate in these activities and
their organization.
