Reclaim Our City Charter – Who We Are & What We Stand For

 

Resolution as Adopted by the Public Meeting 8 April 2008, Wollongong Town Hall

That this public meeting of Wollongong citizens, representative of neighbourhood committees, resident groups, South Coast unions and community stakeholders endorses a major community campaign to “Reclaim our City”.

This campaign will be guided by the following general principles and organizational approach:

1. Principles

a) Democracy now – Return to elected local government with effective anti– corruption processes in place, and an electoral system which properly reflects the wishes of the voters .

b) Voices for our Community – Neighbourhood Committees and Consultative Committees to be reinstated, resourced and recognized by the Council as representative bodies.

c) Community Vision for the City – Appropriate development for the people, including public infrastructure, while protecting our natural and cultural heritage and our public land and resources from any further sell off or alienation from the community.

2. Organization

The Reclaim Our City Campaign Committee consisting of representatives from Neighbourhood/LAM Committees, resident groups, South Coast unions, indigenous community representatives and other community stakeholders will continue to meet and plan a program of activities to promote the stated objectives. The Committee encourages citizens who support this campaign to participate in these activities and their organization.
